Rosalia
Rosalia Vila Tobella[2] (born 25 September 1992),[3] known mononymously as Rosalia (Spanish: [rosa'li.a], Catalan: [ruz@'li.@]),[4][5][6] is a Spanish singer. She was raised in Barcelona. Her eclectic musical style has earned her the status of "atypical pop star". In the wake of being fascinated by Spanish folk music when she was 13she enrolled in musicology at the Catalonia College of Music while also performing in musical bars and weddings.She graduated with distinction thanks to her album of cover songs that she collaborated with Raul Refree in Los Angeles (2017) as well as the Baccalaureate project El Mal Querer (2018). Reimagining flamenco through mixing it with pop and hip hop music, it produced the singles "Malamente" as well as "Pienso in Your Mira" which caught the interest of the Spanish general public and then were released to wide applause from the critics. The album was awarded the Latin Grammy Award for Album of the Year, and a place in Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, El Mal Querer started the ascent of Rosalia into the international music scene. Her third album, Motomami (2022), she introduced reggaeton with an original approach, deviating slightly from the flamenco style of her first album. The album's lead singles "La Fama" and "Saoko" attracted the attention of international audiences and received the highest-rated album on Metacritic. Through her career, Rosalia has accumulated ten top singles in her native country, which is a record for a local artist. She also has won two Grammy Awards, eleven Latin Grammy Awards (including two Album of the Year awards) Four MTV Video Music Awards, an MTV Europe Music Award, three UK Music Video Awards and two Premio Ruido awards, among other things. Billboard gave her the Rising Star Award in 2019 for "changing the music scene of today with her flamenco-inspired pop"[18]. She was also the first Latino-singing artist to be nominated for the Grammys for Best New Artist. Rosalia was born on 25 September 1992 in Sant Cugat del Valles and raised in Sant Esteve Sesrovires,[20][21][22] Baix Llobregat, Catalonia. Her family has no artistic heritage, she is the youngest daughter of Pilar Tobella, a businesswoman who runs a small family company specialised in metalworks. Jose Manuel Vila was her father. He was born in Cudillero (Asturias). They split in 2019. The older sister, Pilar Vila ("born 1989") is her stylist and creative mind. Rosalia was fascinated by performing arts from her early years. She was able to discover the discography of Camaron De la Isla. At the Taller de Musics, she began her musical education. She completed a 6 year program at the academy. She started attending classes at the Raval school and later transferred to the Superior School of Music of Catalonia. In addition, she was a singer on her own at weddings and musical bars where she was paid "a just over 80 euros or for dinner". Rosalia has also met a lot of underground Spanish artists during this period including La Zowi (Yung Beef), Kaydy Cain and Hinds.
